Ad Astra Arms
Helping you shoot for the stars
Attention
Due to renovations and medical conditions, there will be times in which we may be closed for several weeks. For this reason always email [email protected] or phone (leaving voicemail is fine) us at (505) 999-1446 prior to placing an order. (Sorry, the number does not accept texts.)
If we are closed, WE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO RECEIVE PACKAGES--which means that the package will usually be SENT BACK. You may elect to use someone else for the transfer during these closures. That is fine: the important thing is that you receive the firearm you ordered.
Have a great day & God bless,
James
Specializing in the new economically-minded shooter We are a small, veteran-owned, home-based, business, providing firearms transfer and other services. We particularly desire to aid people new to firearms, hobbyists, and the "economically-minded". Not much in the way of frills, but a lot in value.
Transfers and Internet Purchases
By federal law, any interstate transfer of a firearm must be done through a Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL). This applies to internet and catalog purchases, private purchases, and even gifts from family members. We also do background checks for face-to-face private sales.
Training opportunities
We are a husband and wife team certified to teach basic pistol instruction. This is a class designed to help you become a safe and competent handgun shooter.
Other services
We also do special orders of firearms and ammunition, as well as shipping firearms out of state.

What we teach
Fees The following are our fees, effective for firearms received May 2024 or later. Fees shown already include New Mexico Gross Receipts Tax.
- We charge $20 for the first firearm with a single NICS Background Check.
- We charge $10 for each additional firearm on a single NICS check. (E.g., a handgun and two lower receivers is $20 + 2 x $10 = $40.)
- Multiple sales reports go into a federal firearms database. For each report required, we charge $5.00 for the first two firearms on a report plus $5.00 for each additional
one.
- - Handguns: Any transfer of two or more handguns within five business days requires a multiple sales report.
- - Rifles: In New Mexico, two or more semi-automatic rifles with detachable magazines and caliber greater than .22 that are transferred within five business days.
- A storage fee for items not picked up after 14 days from notification of receipt. The storage fee is $10 for each week or portion of a week.
- A handling fee of $10 per incident for the second or subsequent missed appointment. (Please call if you're running late: we often can still do the transfer at a rescheduled time without charging a fee.)
Shipping: We charge $25 for shipping, plus the actual cost of shipping and insurance. Most shippers use the US Postal Service themselves for long guns because it's cheaper. For handguns, we only use the USPS. We will need a copy of the RECEIVING FFL. We recommend getting a Priority Mail Flat Rate box and ensuring that your firearm will fit. DO NOT SEAL THE BOX. We will receive the firearm, shipping cost, and fee, and take care of the necessary paperwork. We usually can ship out the same or the next business day.
